Today I am writing my first post on this blog. I purchased the space a long time ago, and just have not been able to get myself to sit down and write. Even though its one of my favorite outlets. What’s helping right now is that my dog Poppy is sitting curled up at my side. She and I have been cooped up for quite some time these last three weeks, and I let her go to the dog park twice this weekend. So, she finally got her outlet. Now she’s leaning her head on me so hard I can’t move. I’m taking it as a sign that I should try to finish this while I’m sitting here.
I think what’s been keeping me from writing is a mixture of things. One would be the pandemic, which is not only hard to look at, but brings a huge lack of material to go off of. What would I really write about? How many hours I spent on my couch (way too many, in my opinion). How I wish those hours sitting could have been on a plane, how I wish they could have been shared with so many more people? I didn’t buy a planner for months, almost years. I have been a dedicated planner user since middle school, and I broke that tradition. Staring at the blank pages was just too much for me. And maybe in that way writing was the same. The last thing would just be fear that, even if there were things happening in my life, I’d have nothing to write about.
2022 is giving me those refresh vibes. Ones where I want something different. And so maybe that’s what brought me here today. I also happened to be a little productive this weekend so I could just be coming in with that energy.
A little about me. I live in Minneapolis with my dog Poppy, the pointer puppy. She’s a german shorthair pointer, and she gave me inspiration for the name of the blog. I have roots in the Midwest, back a few generations. In general I’d say that my biggest interests are food and design. I love houses, and the making of a home. I love old houses as much as I love innovative new ones. The thought that goes into why and where and how things are created is so interesting to me. My 2021 “spotify wrapped,” called my vibe kind and cozy and they were not wrong. Hopefully the things I write about will reflect that. Today I am just getting my feet wet to see if this will be a place I want to keep returning to.
Welcome to Point North Home, where I hope what you see and read inspires you to always come home to yourself, your true North.
